The LG GW520 handset is a touchscreen phone with a slide-out QWERTY keyboard. With this simple description, one would assume that the mobile is a high-end smartphone. Well, it isn’t. It only looks like one but uts actually one of the best slide mobiles currently on the market. This made doing this LG GW520 review very interesting.

LG made a lot of money with their LG Cookie. The latter was a touchscreen handset that was very popular for its competitive price. LG added the slide-out QWERTY factor to the equation and we got ourselves the LG GW520 handset. Smart of the manufacturer to add another cool thing to an already famously cool handset, we feel qwerty phones are on the rise as emailing and texting is so much easier.

Let’s start our LG GW520 review with the looks. First you will notice the display that may be small for some standards but is perfectly decent at 2.8 inches. The weight and overall size are just right and we loved how it felt in our hand. The keyboard was a delight to use as well. Unlike other QWERTY phones where the buttons are cramped, using the keyboard of the LG GW520 is pure heaven. We turned off the lights to check the backlight and we are happy to report that the illumination is even. You can type away in the dark all you want. The keyboard is one aspect that LG did absolutely right.

The fast response of the screen adds to the great experience that you will have with the phone. Since there is no way for you to install apps that can lag the phone, speed of the touchscreen response will not be an issue. We sure did enjoy using the Flash-based interface and the easy customisation of the widgets. As for the messaging factor, the handset will impress you. Supporting SMS, MMS, and email, you can pretty much contact anyone any way you want. And don’t think you only got the keyboard to rely on for typing. This handset has an on-screen keypad as well.

For other online-related activities, you will have a full support of 3G and a decent browser. The Facebook integration feature is also fun. But we discovered that the multimedia functions of the handset are even more fun. The music player is wonderful to use, the 3MP camera takes adequate photos, and the video recorded does its job. For a budget phone, you would think that LG will not focus so much on these features but we are thankful that they did.

In conclusion, we commend LG for banking on the success of their previous handset to give us a new cheap mobile phone. This is another step that will make touchscreen phones much more accessible to everyone. We got no problem with that.

The Nokia x3 handset belongs to the Nokia Xseries. As of now, the only other phone in the series is the X6 a smartphone that comes with a high price tag. The Nokia X3, however, is friendlier to your wallet and is not a smartphone. You should not get a hint of disappointment from that last sentence because when we wrote this Nokia x3 review, we surely were not let down. A lot of people are buying this phone on contract and getting an unlimited texts sim.

So let’s get to it. Let’s start our Nokia x3 review with the physical aspects. Unlike its more expensive brother, this handset is not a touch screen phone. It is a slider handset that weighs 103 grams. Its screen measures 2.2 inches with a resolution of 240 x 320 pixels. It’s not the brightest screen in the planet but it does its job well. As for the construction, we can honestly say that this handset looks expensive. No matter which colour you get, you will have a handset that will impress others. It has sleek straight lines and a keypad with brushed metal finish. Feels great in your hand and looks awesome, too.

The telephone functions of this handset is one of the things we enjoyed when we made this Nokia x3 review. Talking to someone on the phone was smooth and clear, thanks to the Voice Clarity feature. We didn’t have any problems with the signal, too. As for the messaging function, you have SMS, MMS, email, audio messages. You can even receive flash messages. What we liked about the SMS function is that you have the conversations view option. It is a feature present in more expensive handsets and will surely delight those are used to this kind of SMS viewing mode. Setting up your email is pretty easy, too.

As for the multimedia features, the Nokia x3 handset gives you a more organised media gallery. You have the option to arrange your photos by album. The music player is also incredibly impressive. Browsing the player was easy on the eyes and a breeze to do. We got no complains on the audio quality as well. And if you get tired of your own music, the radio with RDS (and antenna) will save the day.

This handset, being a budget phone, obviously only has a basic camera. The unit included is a 3.2MP basic device. The settings are easy to navigate and utilise. The photos are not award-winning quality but they were decent enough to be shared with friends. For more fun, the Ovi store is your best option. You got your choice between fun applications, games, music, videos, and other stuff that you can use to customise the handset. Of course, we should not forget to mention the games. They are well-made and the reason we wasted a good length of time while doing this review.

It’s been 18 months since the launch of Apple’s iPhone App Store, and since then we’ve had Google’s Android apps, Nokia’s Ovi apps and Windows Mobile apps, but none of these latter options are yet to reach the sheer choice available on their older rival’s platform. Apps have changed mobile phones from simple call/text functionality to powerful portable tool kits with solutions to a huge amount of needs. There are now 150,000 apps available from Apple, but as yet there’s no easy way to get through the App Store and find what you want unless you know exactly what you are looking for. However, help is at hand, and here’s a quick guide to five of the best apps currently available in the Apple App Store. If you would like to get an iPhone, then take a look at the Vodafone website where you can now find the latest 32 GB 3GS model.
Spotify – Music

There are quite a few different music streaming services available through the App Store, with Pandora and Last.fm regularly being touted as amongst the best. However, few have been quite so hyped as Spotify, which was anticipated as a ‘killer app’ before its launched. This streaming service allows you to search for and play any music from the service’s catalogue, edit your playlists, create new ones, which will sync back to the desktop, and save music to your phone to listen to offline. One slight drawback is that it’s for Spotify’s premium users only, so it costs £9.99, making it amongst the most expensive apps.

FlightTrack – Travel

A handy app is great for travel and business and perfect for frequent flyers. You email your travel plans to TripIt, which organizes a master itinerary which you can then view through the FlightTrack app on your iPhone. It’s smart enough to calculate complications and possible delays based on the weather, while giving you access to airport delays and closures, flight statuses and gate changes. It can even help you find another flight if yours gets canceled.

RunKeeper – Health and Fitness

Certainly one for fitness fanatics, RunKeeper tracks your outdoor runs and performance using the phone’s GPS tracking system. You can check the amount of calories burned, distance traveled, duration, pace and altitude, and it can even trace your path on a map. Because your jogs are stored, you can monitor your progress and see where you need to improve. If you’re more of a treadmill runner, then RunTrack can still monitor your fitness stats without the GPS.

Photoshop.com Mobile – Photography

With a wide selection of apps dedicated to photography, Adobe’s king of photo editing stands out from the crowd. It allows you to flip or crop images, and add effects and filters. You can store, edit and share photos from wherever you are. The iPhones camera might not be the best on the market, particularly in poor light, but this handy app can certainly give those snaps are brush up.

Music and phones have had a happy marriage for quite some time now, but the latest generation of smart phones has seen storage and media players being taken to the next level. Many handset providers are now making serious waves in the music industry with the release of their own music stores. Of course, Apple has iTunes, but then there’s the Nokia Music Store along with other provider releases. If you’re looking to merge your iPod and phone handset into one device, then it’s now entirely possible to do that with the huge size of a phone’s memory. If you want to find a great music playing handset, then here are three of the best.
Nokia x6

This phone has either 16GB or 32GB of hard disk space, which is room for 5,500 or 11,000 tracks respectively.
