Introduction

Samsung’s Galaxy S range is one of the most popular smartphone categories. More than six months after their release, the two flagship phones are among the most popular on Android. With a difference of only 100 euros, the two new Samsung models can make you hesitate more than ever before. That’s why we decided to write this review and to give a clear idea of the real differences were between the two models to ease your mind while making the right choice.

Galaxy S7 vs Galaxy S7 Edge: Which one to choose? Everything is explained in the article below.

Physical specs:

Both smartphones come from the same range, so their design is very similar. However, the difference is the wide size since the edge model is much bigger than its little brother. In terms of numbers, the S7 has a 5.1-inch screen and the S7 edge has a screen of 5.5 inches. In other words, these smartphones are addressed to two different audiences: those who desire a smartphone and those who desire a phablet.

In addition to this difference in size, the edge version has its own characteristic. The term “edge” refers in English to the rounded side corners, and when one has it under the eyes one quickly understands why the phone carries such a name. The right and left borders of the device are curved, which gives an elegant appearance and various functionalities. Some adore these edges rounded, others hate them, but it is all the peculiarity of the edge version. Undoubtedly the S7 Edge is certainly the most aesthetic model of both. Furthermore, Samsung is the only manufacturer on the market to offer such a feature. It’s feels great to purchase a unique device unlike all the rest of smartphones that tend to look more and more very similar.

The design: S7 Edge is the winner!

Samsung has made real progress in handling between the S6 Edge and the S7 Edge. The sharp edges of the former no longer exist and are therefore no longer as disagreeable. The manufacturer also takes advantage of these curved edges to add a non-existent functionality on the S7: shortcuts that are displayed by dragging a finger from the left end of the screen. This gives you access to your most frequent tasks and contacts or to the main news headlines. In reality, Samsung could very well have also integrated it to the S7, so its absence is more a marketing choice than technical.

Despite this additional function, the screen of the S7 Edge remains capricious and can sometimes be triggered inadvertently by the palm of its hand that touches the edge of the device. It can be annoying.

Ergonomics: S7 is your guy!

Despite its bigger screen, the S7 Edge (5.5 inches) is far ahead of its little brother (5.1 inches) it is more autonomic. This is thanks to a battery of 3,600 mAh against 3,000 for the S7. At the test of autonomy multipurpose, the S7 Edge thus displayed 13 hours 13min against 10h 04 for the S7.

Autonomy: S7 Edge is the best.

Performance:

The two phones are actually the same when it comes to the performance. Same Exynos 8890 processor, same graphics chip Mali T880 MP4, same 4GB RAM and even the screen resolution of 1,440 x 2,560 pixels is the same Both smartphones are technically strictly identical. Hence, logically, performance is equivalent. The S7 achieves a score of 131 621 to AnTuTu 6 against 131 884 for the S7 Edge, a negligible difference. Same in 3D games, both models rise to 58 images displayed per second at Epic Citadel.

Power: They score the same number of points.

Camera:

On the camera side, the Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge are both equipped with a 12-megapixel sensor, coupled to the same lens aperture f / 1.7. The latter contains large photosites of 1.4 ?m allowing a better capture of light. It has a lower definition (16 megapixels for the Galaxy S6) but better performance in low light. This does not prevent the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge to keep a sharpness (level of detail) that is very impressive, and renderings of high quality. The equipment is not identical on paper, but in practice the results obtained are strictly the same. Both the shooting and the image processing are identical, and do not vary from camera S7 to camera S7 Edge.

The two devices are capture pictures with less quality compared to the previous series S6. They remain, however, and fortunately, powerful photophones.

As usual, Samsung’s camera app is fast and competent, and the new dual-pixel tech improves pictures taken in low-light conditions. Moreover, the front-facing camera with its 5-megapixel is the same on both phones and they actually take decent selfies with the same quality.

Photo: They are identical.

Conclusion:

The match as you can see is tied. Our advice would be that if you have 100 euros more to spend, the S7 Edge thus gains a short head, thanks to its more original design and far greater autonomy. For the rest, it’s exactly the same phone. But if you are not comfortable with the edges which can sometimes annoying, especially because they can be slippery, you will not therefore suffer from choosing an S7.

The choice is yours, let it be wise.
