The Nexus S features a 4 inch display with curved glass and a 5 megapixels high resolution autofocus camera with LED flash. The phone also has a VGA front camera and 5MP rear facing camera for video calling.  It also has 16GB of internal memory. The Nexus S also supports NFC technology that allows users to interact with other objects,  such as stickers or posters, that are embedded with NFC technology.

The Nexus S will be available in the United States starting on December 16 for $529 unlocked or $199 with a new two year T-Mobile contract. Carphone Warehouse will sell the Nexus S in the UK after December 20 for £549.95 unlocked.

In putting the terminally flawed OS out to pasture, Samsung have realised their potential to become big players in the smartphone market.

bada had, quite rightfully come under criticism. Not only for being one OS too many in a market already full of high-quality competition, but further for having flaws that set it some way behind those that it was trying to match.

It was unreceptive to third-party developers, unlikely to support any future technological developments, and didn’t support multi-tasking – something certainly necessary in any new platform trying to assert itself in 2009.

Samsung have really taken Android 2.1 to the next level on the Samsung Galaxy S though, and overlay the stock OS with a few bada inspired tweaks that make the user process a little smoother. These benefits are not inconsiderable, especially in light of the release of Android 2.2, which the Galaxy S will not run.

Simple things such as a readily accessible Wi-Fi toggle alongside on-screen icons for silent mode and keypad lock make the phone that little bit more user friendly, and in the current market – in which personal preference defines people’s choices as no hardware stands head and shoulders above the rest – these tweaks could prove decisive.

Touchscreen mobile deals are great but not everyone likes to type on these devices’ soft keyboard. It can feel just a tad weird. For some people, nothing beats a real alpha-numeric keyboard as this is what all of us are used to. Thank heavens for the Samung Tocco Ultra. This phone is the answer to those who want a touchscreen device  but still be able to type efficiently on a keyboard that we all know and love.

The integration of the alpha-numeric keyboard is just one of the great things about the Samsung Tocco Ultra. Another amazing thing about this handset is its appearance. Grey and red always look great together and Samsung has taken advantage of this fact. It’s AMOLED screen also offers clear and bright viewing experience. It’s better than an OLED display simply because it uses less power, which means that you’ll have longer battery life. Even if you use all applications all day long on the Samsung Tocco Ultra, you won’t need to turn to the charger for help.

But this will not be a review if we don’t mention what might keep you from buying this handset. Though Samsung proved to be a genius when the company combined touchscreen and alpha-numeric keypad, they still should have worked on making the user interface more responsive. If you compare the handset’s display response to that of an iPhone, you’ll see why many users are in love with the latter.  This 8 megapixel camera Phone might be impressive but it can use features that will make taking snaps much more satisfying. But this is not a DSLR; it’s just a mobile phone WITH a camera and we could be asking for too much.

In summary, the Samsung Tocco Ultra a great device. It’s a fantastic touch screen phone but don’t go comparing it to devices with more responsive user interface because you’ll be disappointed.
